Dragutin Matić

As a child from opera singers family, during his studies at Faculty of Law, he showed great interest and huge talent for singing. He started to practice singing with famous baritone Slobodan Stankovic, after which he studied Academy of Art in class of Primadonna and professor, emeritus Radmila Bakocevic. He continued his studies on prestigious Academy of Art in Würzburg, Germany, in class of Professor Leandra Overmann and finished his studies in class of famous American soprano Cheryl Studer.

In year 2012, he debuted in National Theatre in Belgrade in role of Conte di Luna in Verdi`s opera Il Trovatore, after which he established himself as one of most promising Verdi baritones and sang most of the great dramatic Verdi baritone roles like Renato in Un ballo in maschera, Don Carlo di Vargas in Forza del Destino, George Germont in La Traviata, Iago in Otello, and title roles in Nabucco, Rigoletto and Simone Boccanegra. He introduced himself to the audience also in title comic role of Rossini`s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, in role of Enrico in Donizetti`s opera Lucia di Lammermoor, and in verismo role of Carlo Gerard in Giordani`s opera Andrea Chenier.

He made significant cooperation with Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad. With Simphony Orchestra and Choir of RTS he added to his repertoire Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and A German Requiem.

Soon after he confirmed himself as exquisite interpretator in Serbia, his International career followed. He sang role of Carlo Gerard from opera Andrea Chenier in a famous Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania and role of Iago from Verdi`s Otello in Catanzaro, Italy. In National theatre in Ostrava, Czech Republic he sang Renato in Un ballo in maschera, Iago in Otello, and title role of Nabucco. Next season he will be singing there the role of Wolfram in Wagner’s Tannhäuser. In Romanian National Theatre in Timisoara he sang Nabucco, Rigoletto and Il Trovatore. In Polish National Theatre in Wroclaw, he sang Il Trovatore. In Albanian National Theatre in Tirana he
sang George Germont in La Traviata. Both In Azerbaijan National Opera in Baku and in National Theatre in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina he sang Rigoletto. In Germany he sang several performances of Carmina Burana, and concert performances of Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana and Messa di Gloria in Marktkirche in Wiesbaden. In June, this season, he will be singing Iago in a new production of Ottelo in Janacek Theatre in Brno.
